Character Name: Evangeline Darcey Mae Huntly
Age: 28
Suit/Rank: Eight of Hearts

History:

The middle child of Marcus and Julianna Huntly, Evangeline Huntly has lived in Hearts Castle for a good chunk of her life. At a young age, she was raised lovingly by her parents and her older sister Kathryn, who was wise beyond her years. As a result, she was educated in all the usual things that a Deckbaby was taught - dancing, horseback riding, and languages. What she loved the most, though, was music - both singing and playing instruments. She was taught piano initially, but chose to pick up a plethora of string instruments on the side as well out of pure love for the art.

Along with learning all these things, she also got to know many of the other children in the Deck around her age. One of her friends when she was younger was Alasdair Dewitt, and the two would often spend time playing together. Edie always preferred playing with the boys rather than the girls, and often came home muddy and rumpled from playing tag - unlike Kathryn, who was always pristine and graceful. Her parents, though, didn't care, and Kathryn had to put up with Edie's tomboyish ways.

As she grew older, she began to go to school. Despite her intelligence, she didn't really excel, as she preferred to slack off and play pranks during class, much to Kathryn's discontent. Looking back, Edie would admit that her potential went to waste at the time. Around the time she was entering high school, her little sister Cordelia was born, and Edie doted on her like she was her mother. The distanced relationship between Kathryn and Edie was more than made up for by the way the two sisters took care of the third.

By the time Edie graduated, she came to the startling realization that he was now an adult - in other words, she had to do something with her life. She had slowly started climbing the ranks in the Hearts ever since she turned 15, using her musical skill to defeat those she challenged. But she hadn't yet given any thought to a profession she'd really want. Long, arduous hours were spent in her counselor's office, with no real results.

Finally, she started on her degree in educational psychology, chosen mostly by random and by online quizzes. She liked people, liked helping people, but didn't like the classroom: being an advisor of some sorts seemed to be the perfect choice. Kathryn had already left the Deck a few years before to attend a college on the Outside. Edie was hesitant to leave home as well, with Cordelia only five years old - even though her parents were both fully capable of taking care of her, Edie wanted to be a part of her younger sister's childhood. That left her beginning on her correspondence degree at home, with five-year-old Cordelia occasionally offering help in the form of hugs and kisses.

It was only a year into working on her degree that Edie started to find herself interested in business. In a hasty split decision, she decided to work on a minor in business alongside her degree. It took her longer with the added work, but in five years, she finally applied to the school in Town and became a specialist in learning resources - fancy talk for someone who helped others find their way. She began to help Deck students right out of school with choosing colleges and getting jobs - and began to give talks to high school students as well.

This is where she met Alasdair again. A couple weeks after she had given a presentation in his class about making intelligent choices in the future, he asked her out. She said yes. They were the definition of a picture-perfect couple. Both sides of the family started to prepare for an eventual marriage, and even Kathryn smiled favorably on the relationship. The two were inseparable and adorable. Allie was perfect.

Too perfect. After three years, the relationship started to take its toll on Edie. The constant affection went from sweet to cloying; the fragility with which he treated her made her feel untouchable. She felt trapped in the relationship, with everyone expecting her to live a quaint life with Allie happily ever after. And so, on one sunny summer day, she dumped him. It was the talk of the Deck. She hated it. But it had to be done.

Her pride kept her from ever going back on her decision. Her stubbornness kept her from even behaving amiably to him. Her independence kept her from falling into another relationship since then. And she's continued much in the same place as she was three years ago - a learning resources specialist who occasionally helps out in her parents' record shop.

Personality:

Edie is peppy, hyper, and can be a little crazy at times. Overenthusiastic is definitely one way to describe. Determined to have everyone agree with her is another. She can be quite stubborn when it comes to her preferences, and doesn't let people disagree with her without putting up a fight. She's also very independent, and hates the idea that she "can't live without" anyone: one of the reasons that she hasn't gone looking for a relationship for a while. She is also prone to making hasty, split-second decisions.

The defining trait of Edie's personality is her drive to reclaim her childhood. Even though she can be mature, she often opts to use more childish slang and mannerisms to seem younger. She is honestly frightened of hitting thirty and the implications that "growing old" seems to bring along. She doesn't feel like she's done enough things for having lived this long. Yet at the same time, she understands that her responsibilities in her job don't exactly allow her to leave Deck very often.

That being said, she's still a very cheerful person for the most part. She doesn't let such insecurities show, for fear that someone would take it into their head that she needs pity, or to be taken care of. She is sarcastic and silly in equal doses and generally loves life.

Appearance:

Edie has long hair that settles past her shoulders in bouncy, thick curls. Her bright blue 'Huntly' eyes are vivid and charming, and she has petite facial features otherwise. Of average height (around 5'6"), she doesn't have a particularly graceful gait - in fact, she's more clumsy than anything. She likes dressing in vintage clothing, and has a noticeable obsession with floral patterns, whether on her clothes or her accessories.

Why this Suit? Edie is pretty much the definition of a Heart. She's strong-willed, compassionate, and not one to hide emotions or feelings. While her love for music and her taste for art (at least, in terms of fashion) might call her to the Clubs, she's never felt a strong urge to switch Suits, considering most of her family is in Hearts.
How did you hear about us? Hmmm...
